Story Time:

Genesis 40 (read together in your bible)

While Joseph was in prison after his brothers sold him, he met two people who were having strange dreams. God had given Joseph the gift of being able to tell people what their dreams meant. This is called interpreting. The two people once worked for the King of Egypt. Joseph helped the men by telling them what their dreams meant and what Joseph told them, came true!

Things to think about:

Have you ever had a dream that you wondered about? Everyone has dreams! Sometimes dreams can be scary, funny, or silly and most of the times our dreams don’t really mean anything. They usually happen because of a show we watch or a book we read or maybe even because of something we saw during our day. God sometimes will use dreams to tell someone something which is what he did for a lot of people in the Bible. God gave Joseph the special gift of being able to tell people what their dreams meant. Even though Joseph was a prisoner and had a lot of hard stuff happen to him, he still helped people! God used Joseph for good and Joseph always remembered that God was on his side.

Activity/Craft Time:

Make your own dream catcher!

Materials:

  • paper plate
  • scissors
  • crayons
  • yarn
  • beads
  • feathers
  • a hole punch.

Have an adult cut out the middle of your plate. Punch holes along the inside circle about an 1 ½ inches apart. Take your yarn and create a “web” but weaving it in and out of the holes you punched. Punch three holes in the bottom of your plate. Tie a feather and string beads on 3 pieces of yarn and tie them into the 3 holes you punched into the bottom. Decorate your plate with crayons, markers, stickers, or whatever else you might have. You can also punch some holes in the top to create a hanger for your dream catcher. When you’re done, hang it next to your bed so you can “catch” your dreams!

Pray:

Dear God, thank you for being with us in every situation. Help us to remember you always love us and help us to always love you! Amen.
