Story Time:

Genesis 41 – The story of Joseph helping Pharaoh  

You can read this story in the bible with your family. This story tell us about Joseph helping the King of Egypt interpret his dreams. Remember what interpret means? Interpret means to tell the meaning of something or explain something. Pharaoh had two really crazy dreams and needed someone to tell him what they meant. The baker that Joseph had helped in prison overheard Pharaoh talking about his dream and told him about Joseph. Pharaoh sent for Joseph to be taken out of jail and brought to him. Joseph helped Pharaoh learn what his dream meant, and Pharaoh was so happy that he set him free from jail AND gave him power of his land!  

 

Lesson: 

Wow! God had big plans for Joseph. Joseph went through a lot of hard times remember? He was sold by his brothers and put into jail but even through all that Joseph showed kindness and trusted that God had a plan for him. God has a plan for you too and if you trust Him even when things get tough, good things will happen! That’s called having faith.  

 

Family Game Idea: 

Items needed: A few paper plates (enough for each family member), a marker 

Place the paper plate upside down on top of your head. Take your marker and follow these directions: 

  • Draw a house. 
  • Draw a sun in the sky. 
  • If you haven’t already, put a chimney and windows on the house. 
  • Draw a line where the ground should be. 
  • Add flowers coming up from the ground. 
  • Place a happy face on the sun. 
  • Draw a tree on the side of the house. 
  • Add a person to the scene under the tree. 

Look at your picture. Was it hard to do? Now here comes the second part. Partner up with someone and get a new paper plate. Place the paper plate on one person’s head while the other person stands behind you and holds your hands with the marker. Let the other person guide you through the directions and help you draw. When your finished compare the two drawings. Which one looks better?  

This game shows us that having help and trust can give us good results! Just like when we trust God!
