*Greeting
Leader: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
People: And also with you.
Leader: God is light, in whom there is no darkness at all.
People: Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
Leader: And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world,
People: and we loved darkness rather than light.

*Hymn What Wondrous Love Is This #292

*Opening Prayer
Almighty God, graciously behold this your family, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed into the hands of sinners, and to suffer death upon the cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.

Confession and Pardon
My sisters and brothers,
Christ shows us his love by becoming a humble servant.
Let us draw near to God and confess our sin in the truth of God's
Spirit.

Silent Prayer

Most merciful God,
we your Church confess
that often our spirit has not been that of Christ.
Where we have failed to love one another as he loves us,
where we have pledged loyalty to him with our lips
and then betrayed, deserted, or denied him,
forgive us, we pray;
and by your Spirit make us faithful in every time of trial;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ.
But Christ suffered and died for us,
was raised from the dead and ascended on high for us,
and continues to intercede for us.
Believe the good news:
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
Glory to God. Amen.

*Hymn When I Survey the Wondrous Cross #298

*Prayer
We draw the sword to claim high places for ourselves.
We scourge, mock, and beat you, Jesus.
We prepare a cross for you.
We hang you on it.
We pierce your side with the spear.
We willfully break the fellowship you prayed to be one.
We make scapegoats of people we deem other.
We create or refuse to end malnutrition, contamination of water, poverty, sickness, inhospitality, and imprisonment.

Silent Prayer

*Jesus, keep us near the cross,
that we may be drawn back to you,
and be healed. Amen.
May Jesus draw you to himself,
and heal you.

*Lord’s Prayer

 *Hymn Were You There   #288

Silently, the altar is cleared.  Altar cross, candles, Bible, and paraments are removed. (Symbolizes Christ descending to Hell and the removal from this world.)
