Stone UMC has already committed to feeding thirty families for six months. That is 7% of the whole Nyadire community A family of five can be fed for $18 a month...$108 for six months. If you can help meet this urgent need, please read on for how you can help....

Dear Friends and Supporters of The Nyadire Connection:

I hope that you are staying safe and healthy these days, as throughout the world we continue to adapt to the COVID crisis.

Back in May, TNC asked you to support an emergency appeal to fund food delivery in Nyadire, Zimbabwe, home of a United Methodist Mission.  As usual, you responded with amazing generosity; thanks to your donations and other TNC funds, we have sent $38,000 in four installments.  The food goes to the families who live or work at Nyadire Mission plus the pastors of the Mutoko-Mudzi district and the staff at Nyadire’s six rural health clinics.  Support now goes to 407 families and we continue to receive abundant and heartfelt messages of appreciation for this life-enabling generosity.
"We thank you TNC for this unmerited love and care which you have been portraying to us."

Now, with the COVID crisis worsening in Zimbabwe – along with the country’s ongoing economic and unemployment catastrophe – our friends’ need for food is even greater.  An April report by the United Nations rated Zimbabwe as one of the top global centers for food insecurity this year, with many citing hunger as a greater death threat than COVID.  According to the latest World Food Programme Report, Zimbabwe is one of 10 countries where fewer than 20% of children receive a minimally adequate diet, further compromising their quality of life.

Thanks to you, we have been able to make a difference at Nyadire, and we are now asking that you help us to continue to do so.  Our goal is to raise $45,000 this month so that we can provide food for those 407 families from November 2020 through April 2021.  As it did earlier this year, The Nyadire Social Committee developed and will administer and monitor the program.  The Committee has developed a minimum food bundle – including mealie-meal, cooking oil, beans and sugar – that helps to sustain a family of five for one month at a cost of just $18 (or $108 for the six-month period).  Could you or your family sponsor one, or hopefully more, of the 407 families for six months with this basic food bundle?  In addition, if you usually attend the Rotary Chicken BBQ, which was canceled due to COVID, can you donate the amount that you would have spent on tickets? We ask that you prayerfully consider supporting this six-month extension of our emergency food delivery with a tax-deductible contribution.  As you can understand, time is urgent and we would like to receive funds by Sept. 30.
"If you can afford three meals a day, sacrifice one and eat two. If you can afford two meals a day, eat one and donate one. And if you can afford one meal a day, please eat for six days and donate for one day … There is someone somewhere who is in a situation which is more serious than yours."
