Story Time:

Genesis 40 (Read together in your bible)

This story tells about Joseph while he was in prison in Egypt. Two of Pharoah’s servants were also sent to prison and were with Joseph. These servants were a baker and a butcher. The baker and butcher both had dreams on the same night and Joseph heard them talking about them and asked if he could help. God had given Joseph a special gift that allowed him to help people know what their dreams mean. This is called interpreting. Joseph interpreted both the butcher and the baker’s dreams and they came true!

Lesson:

Even when you are in a hard situation God wants us to be kind and have integrity. What does integrity mean? Integrity means doing the right thing, even when no one notices or sees what you are doing. You do it because it’s the right thing to do.

Things to think about:

Have you ever been in a situation where you showed integrity?

Example: Integrity is not watching a movie at a friends house you know you aren’t supposed to watch even though your parents would never know you watched it. Right is right. You follow the rules because that is what your parents (and God) tell you to do.

Activity/Craft:

Make your own dream catcher!

Materials:

  • paper plate
  • scissors
  • crayons
  • yarn
  • beads
  • feathers
  • a hole punch.

Cut out the middle of your plate. Punch holes along the inside circle about an 1 ½ inches apart. Take your yarn and create a “web” but weaving it in and out of the holes you punched. Punch three holes in the bottom of your plate. Tie a feather and string beads on 3 pieces of yarn and tie them into the 3 holes you punched into the bottom. Decorate your plate with crayons, markers, stickers, or whatever else you might have. You can also punch some holes in the top to create a hanger for your dream catcher. When you’re done, hang it next to your bed so you can “catch” your dreams!

Pray:

Dear God, thank you for being with us in every situation. Help us to remember you always love us and help us to always love you! Amen.
